Ernest Dudley

Biography

Writer and sometime actor born Vivian Ernest Coltman Allen (he took the "Dudley" from his home town) who had a colourful life but was most famous for his detective plays and novels. In the 1940s he hosted a popular magazine show, Armchair Detective, reviewing the latest crime fiction.

Trivia

Outside of crime fiction, his other works included a biography of Lillie Langtry, a history of the Zeppelin, and a memoir of his adventures in marathon running.
