TWW began broadcasting on 14 January 1958 as the first ITV station for South Wales and the West of England. From January 1964, it also served North Wales, after taking over the bankrupt Wales West and North Television (known on-air as Teledu Cymru). On 3 March 1968 its franchise passed to HTV.
