Host

Kenny Lynch, Nicky Henson, Jo Kendall and Christopher Wray

Broadcast

BBC1, 27 July to 21 September 1967 (9 episodes)

Synopsis

Each week two schools would compete against each other in a quiz, the winner going through to the next round.

The most unusual part of the show was the prize. Each team was asked to bring a metal object with them, and the culmination of all these objects was welded into a groovy, chrome pop art sculpture which was then presented to the series winners. Losers received a WH Smith book token for their troubles.

Inventor

Based on an idea by Britt Allcroft, who had served on the production team of Blue Peter and would later turn Thomas the Tank Engine into a global phenomenon.

Trivia

The producer was Cynthia Felgate, who like Allcroft would go on to somewhat bigger things - in her case, serving as the executive producer and then editor of Play School over a decade and a half, and devising that show's successor, Playbus (later renamed Playdays).
