Border began broadcasting on 1 September 1961 as the ITV station for Cumbria and south Scotland. From 1965, it also served the Isle of Man. Most of its productions aired only locally.
After dabbling in independent local radio in the 1990s, Border was taken over by Capital Radio in 2000. Its television assets were then sold on to Granada.
