(Pobol y Cwm is the oldest soap in the UK besides Corrie and Emmerdale (it turned 50 last year) and I would think is the best-known of all the shows on S4C. So why not mention it here? ;)) |

S4C began broadcasting on 1 November 1982, the day before Channel 4 in the rest of the UK. Until 31 March 2010, S4C broadcast a mix of Welsh-language programmes produced by BBC Cymru Wales (including the soap opera Pobol y Cwm), HTV Wales and local independent companies, and English-language programmes from Channel 4. Following the completion of the digital switchover in Wales, S4C now broadcasts entirely in Welsh.
