After losing its franchise to Carlton in the 1991 ITV franchise auction, it ceased broadcasting on 31 December 1992 and became an independent production company.
Thames was acquired by the Pearson conglomerate in mid-1993, and lost its identity following a merger into Talkback in 2003. Shows made by this TalkbackThames company are listed in Talkback. The "Thames" credit was revived in 2012 for Fremantle's non-comedy entertainment programmes.
